A look at the poem and exposition of Dark Night of The Soul by St. John of The Cross, as seen through the frameworks of Ken Wilber and Religious thought.
In addition to a review of the poem, Dark Night, and the state-stages of Integral Theory, some other interesting questions are raised:
1. Are stages of mysticism and awakening helpful? Or do frameworks such as these become ideas that later become blocks to organic growth?
2. Are the terms "divine union" and "enlightenment" helpful in describing a completion point in the process of awakening? Or do they over-dramatize and create an elaborate story that inhibits the seeker?
